SailGP Sassnitz is a high-performance sailing event held on the dramatic Baltic Sea coast of Germany’s Rügen Island. As part of the global SailGP championship—a cutting-edge, nation-versus-nation sailing league—this event brings together the world’s best sailors competing in identical, hydrofoiling F50 catamarans capable of reaching speeds over 50 knots (close to 100 km/h). The Sassnitz leg stands out for its visually arresting cliffs, variable wind conditions, and proximity to passionate sailing fans lining the shorelines. Crowds are treated to heart-pounding action just meters from the coast, with split-second decisions, tactical maneuvers, and razor-thin margins defining the leaderboard.

This event is part of a three-year commitment by SailGP to host races in Germany, with additional events planned for 2027 Sail World . Sassnitz's debut in the SailGP calendar in August 2025 was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, drawing over 13,000 spectators who witnessed high-speed racing just meters from the shore.
