Berlin’s Green Week Opens Its 90th Exhibition

Today Friday January 16,2026 , Berlin’s Green Week (Internationale Grüne Woche) opens its doors for the 90th time. The world’s largest trade fair for agriculture and food once again showcases the capabilities, innovation, and diversity of modern farming and food production. The event also marks a historic milestone. First held in 1926, Green Week has accompanied nearly a century of change in agriculture, nutrition, and horticulture. However, interruptions during the Second World War and the COVID-19 pandemic mean that this year’s edition is not yet the 100th.

According to the organizers, both the German Federal President and the Federal Chancellor have announced their attendance. Federal Minister for Agriculture, Food, and Regional Identity, Alois Rainer (CSU), is also expected to participate in numerous events and guided tours. On 17 January, around 70 agriculture ministers from across the globe will gather in Berlin for the International Conference of Agriculture Ministers.

To mark the anniversary, organizers promise an exceptional program of highlights. This year’s Flower Hall is themed “Babylon Garden – The Golden Bloom of the Roaring Twenties.” During the opening weekend, visitors to the Animal Hall will, for the first time, see the mounted unit of the German Federal Police demonstrate its skills. Another new feature is the “ZERO Theme Island” in Hall 27, which focuses on circular economy solutions.

The exhibition space includes flooring made from recycled tires, natural and minimally processed snacks, reuse workshops, and even a showcase of vegan, organic eyewear. Culinary Delights, Tourism, and Animal Attractions Thirteen German federal states will present their regional culinary specialties and tourism highlights.

This year’s official partner region is Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In Hall 21b, food start-ups from Berlin will be featured, while international exhibitors once again invite visitors to explore global cultures and cuisines. Making its debut in 2026 is Côte d’Ivoire, represented as one of the world’s leading cocoa exporters.

From 22 to 25 January 2026, Berlin’s largest indoor equestrian tournament, Hippologica, will take place, featuring show jumping, dressage, and vaulting competitions. Around 1,600 exhibitors from more than 50 countries will present products, trends, and ideas. Of these, approximately 1,150 exhibitors are from Germany, with 450 international participants. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will appear for the 25th time with its own dedicated exhibition hall.
