Mice Editorial Tue, Jul 08, 2025
Germany is where the world comes to trade,” , Gitta Connemann, Parliamentary State Secretary for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs,spotlighting not only economic data but the magnetic pull of German cities as global meeting points for innovation, industry, and investment.
Global Reach, Lasting Impact
Germany hosted 2.46 million international trade fair visitors in 2024, a record-setting 34% of all attendees at national and international fairs — the highest in the world.
Top visiting countries included:
- Netherlands – 211,000 visitors
- Italy – 176,000
- Austria – 152,000
- Switzerland – 148,000
- China – 20,000
These aren’t just numbers. They represent professionals, buyers, and decision-makers flying in from across continents to connect, discover new products, and forge partnerships. The result: a uniquely international atmosphere that continues to set Germany apart.
A Magnet for Global Industry
In 2024, over 107,000 international companies chose Germany to showcase their goods and services — a clear vote of confidence in the country’s infrastructure, global reach, and business-friendly environment.
The leading exhibiting nations were:
- China
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Turkey
- France
From energy to automotive, construction to healthcare, Germany remains the ultimate platform for launching products, expanding into Europe, and building global networks.
Resilient Growth Amid Challenges
Despite transport strikes and logistical hurdles in early 2024, Germany’s trade fair industry showed robust growth:
- Exhibiting companies: 204,000 (+9.2%)
- Visitors: 11.7 million (+3.2%)
- Stand space: 7.2 million m² (+7.2%)
More than 50 events were affected by rail and air travel disruptions, with estimated losses of up to 250,000 visitors. Yet the numbers reflect a sector in full recovery and renewed expansion.
Looking Ahead: Innovation and Investment
Germany is not resting on its laurels. In 2025, the country will host more than 310 trade fairs, including over a dozen new shows covering critical sectors like care, energy, and construction.
To support this growth, exhibition venues across the country will invest more than €770 million by 2029 in infrastructure upgrades — from smarter digital systems to sustainable pavilions and climate-friendly facilities.
This long-term strategy ensures that trade fair Germany continues to lead — not just in size and volume, but in relevance, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
Why Germany?
With 70 exhibition centres stretching from the North Sea to Lake Constance, Germany is unmatched in scale, accessibility, and professionalism.
At peak times, German fairs host:
- Over 235,000 exhibiting companies
- Up to 16 million visitors
- With 60% of exhibitors and 35% of trade visitors at major events coming from abroad
Whether in Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich, or Düsseldorf, every trade fair becomes an international stage — connecting continents, industries, and people.
“We Are the Meeting Point of the Global Economy”
As Connemann concluded, “Germany’s trade fairs are more than events — they are engines of global progress. They are where innovation begins, partnerships form, and the future is negotiated.”
Germany isn’t just hosting the conversation — it’s shaping it.
